Eastbourne businesses are being invited to enter teams into the Eastbourne Hospitality Association Half Marathon and battle it out this spring to see which company comes in fastest on Sunday 6 March.
A popular event, which regularly attracts over 1,000 entrants and covers a 13-mile course through Princes Park, along the seafront and round Sovereign Harbour the Eastbourne Half Marathon provides the ultimate platform for some friendly business rivalry this spring.
Keen businesses as well as individual athletes, joggers and walkers can sign up now and get training over the next couple of months.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Eastbourne Half Marathon is a very popular event in the Eastbourne sporting calendar and a great way to kick-start those healthy New Year resolutions. Raising money for some worthy causes, it makes a fun challenge for local businesses to take on. Let the battle of Eastbourne businesses commence!”
The business competition is being promoted by the Eastbourne & District Chamber of Commerce and President, Christina Ewbank is keen to see a big entry. “The Half Marathon is a fantastic event taking in the town’s lovely seafront and this is a great opportunity for the business community not just to have a great time but also raise money for a wide range of local causes. First prize has been donated by Fitness First. The business team with the first four runners over the finishing line will each win 3 months free membership. We will also have a prize for the best fancy dress and other categories and prizes will be announced next week.
Reid+Dean are sponsoring the Eastbourne Half Marathon again in 2011 and as well as promoting the main event, we are also keen for juniors to take on a mini marathon of their own with a 1km race for under 12’s and 2km race for under 17’s. We are also inviting businesses to manage the drinks stations which they can brand with their own promotional materials.
